Job Description

A Clinical Nurse II (CN II) is a proficient clinician who provides nursing care in a skilled and effective manner in an ambulatory setting. Independently prioritizes and diligent and effective patient care in a variety of patient situations using appropriate decision-making skills. Exhibits competence in the technical, interpersonal and cognitive skills required to independently and safely manage routine patient assignment. Nursing care is delivered using standards of care by following approved policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and implements individualized patient care based on observations. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) monitoring to maintain or improve care of designated patient population. Implements appropriate reporting, referrals and care in accordance with standardized procedures. Initiates emergency procedures when indicated.
  • Demonstrates refined assessment skills, integrating appropriate data sources to assess the signs, symptoms, reactions, behaviors, or general appearance to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics.
  • Provides direct and indirect care services, including, but not limited to, the administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care.
  • Performs skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy and the initiation of peripheral venous access.
  • Observes signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications/treatments, general behavior, and/or general physical condition.
  • Prioritizes identified patient care problems within assigned patients and assumes responsibility for problem resolution, using all resources as appropriate
  • Plans patient care and education based on disease process, anticipated patient outcomes, complications of treatment, and psycho-social needs in collaboration with other healthcare team members
  • Provides care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds. Identifies patient's readiness for learning and ability to follow directions/instructions and give consent.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and is able to identify and make special adjustments as required to the specific populations needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family and condition needs.
  • Participates in evidence-based improvement initiatives and/or councils/committees that improve nursing outcomes and the work environment in their unit/department.
  • Identifies and assesses patient safety concerns with respect to age and developmental considerations. Intervenes to provide a safe environment and evaluates effectiveness of intervention for patient.
  • Provides and accurately documents direct and indirect patient care services that ensures the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients in a timely manner.
  • Administers immunizations, IM/subcutaneous injections, IV, and/or oral medications.
  • Applies the nursing process to perform, coordinate and supervise patient assessments and provide nursing interventions.
  • Performs designated diagnostic tests and procedures (ie stress test, dobutamine stress test, cardiopulmonary exercise test, bubble/contrast studies, etc.

Qualifications Education:

Associate's degree/College diploma in Nursing required. Bachelor's degree in Science in Nursing (state-accredited program).

License and Certification:
  • California RN state license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required/must obtain once hired.
Experience:

One (1) year of relevant ambulatory or acute care experience in the area of specialty required. Two (2) years preferred. One ( 1) year of Cardiac nursing (inpatient or outpatient setting) required.
